Foundations

The tokens everything else is built on

Color, type, and spacing — the authoritative source of truth, current as of the last time Design, Engineering, and Brand were all in the same room about it.

Color

Fourteen named grays and six functional colors. The names carry more conviction than the differences between the hex values.

SwatchNameTokenValueNote
Executive Ink --color-ink-900 #16181d Primary text. Undisputed.
Boardroom --color-ink-700 #3c4048 Renamed from "Slate 700" during last year's rebrand. The hex value did not change.
Quiet Authority --color-ink-500 #6b7078 Secondary text, captions.
Provenance Amber --color-accent #a8631f Primary accent. Not, we have been told, a reference to the domain.
Cascade Teal --color-teal #2c6e6b Links, secondary actions.
Candor Red --color-danger #b3432f Errors. The one place in the system where we say what happened directly.
Consensus Green --color-success #3f7a4f Success states, and the color of the "approved" stamp in Governance.

Typography

One typeface, seven weights of confidence.

Display / 48Design at the speed of trust
Heading 1 / 32One source of truth
Heading 2 / 24Aligned stakeholder experience
Body / 16This is body copy. It is used for most things, including the parts of this sentence that are load-bearing.
Small / 14Caption text, footnotes, and disclaimers that were requested by Legal.

Spacing

An 8-point scale, mostly. Two teams round to the nearest 5 instead, for reasons no longer documented anywhere Governance can locate.
